Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) “Ideas worth spreading.”  “Inspired talks by the world’s greatest thinkers and doers.”  The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).   This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. Almost 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.

Professional Organizations and Professional Development Web Sites

National Association of International Educators (NAFSA) is an association of individuals worldwide advancing international education and exchange and global workforce development. NAFSA serves international educators and their institutions and organizations by setting standards of good practice, providing training and professional development opportunities, providing networking opportunities, and advocating for international education.

National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) will support and advance the work of counseling and enrollment professionals as they help all students realize their full educational potential, with particular emphasis on the transition to postsecondary education. NACAC is committed to promoting high professional standards that foster ethical and social responsibility.




European Association of International Education (EAIE) is a non-profit organization whose main aim is the stimulation and facilitation of the internationalization of higher education in Europe and around the world, and to meet the professional needs of individuals active in international education.  The EAIE is a member-led organization made up of individual members. It has a committed membership of more than 1600 international education professionals - from rectors to professors to international exchange coordinators. The EAIE is dedicated to serving and representing this membership.  The EAIE annual conference is sometimes described as a “European NAFSA.”

American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers ( AACRAO) is a nonprofit, voluntary, professional association of more than 10,000 higher education admissions and registration professionals who represent approximately 2,500 institutions in more than 30 countries.   The mission of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) is to provide professional development, guidelines and voluntary standards to be used by higher education officials regarding the best practices in records management, admissions, enrollment management, administrative information technology and student services. It also provides a forum for discussion regarding policy initiation and development, interpretation and implementation at the institutional level and in the global educational community.


Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) is a membership organization formed in November 1982, and is composed of institutional leaders engaged in advancing the international dimensions of higher education. The purposes of the Association are to: 1) prrovide an effective voice on significant issues within international education at all levels, 2) improve and promote international education programming and administration within institutions of higher education, 3) establish and maintain a professional network among international education institutional leaders, 4) cooperate in appropriate ways with other national and international groups having similar interests.

The Office of International Education in Washington D.C. represents College Board programs to international audiences and serves as an information link and liaison to overseas educational advisers, counselors at international schools, and U.S. college and university staff involved in international student recruitment activities.

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.
University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) is an independent consortium of university and college-administered intensive English programs in the United States. Founded in 1967, UCIEP's purpose is the advancement of professional standards and quality instruction in intensive English programs at universities and colleges in the United States. American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP) International students who want to study English in the USA will find a great variety of quality English language programs in the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP). Nearly 300 AAIEP members offer intensive English language programs located in university and college settings or city centers across the USA.

Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a global education association. with approximately 13,000 members in over 120 countries, and is recognized as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) of the United Nations Department of Public Information. Its mission is to ensure excellence in English language teaching to speakers of other languages. TESOL values professionalism in language education; individual language rights; accessible, high quality education; collaboration in a global community; interaction of research and reflective practice for educational improvement; and respect for diversity and multiculturalism.

International Association of Universities – UNESCO  The database on Higher Education Systems includes information available on the higher education systems of some 180 countries and territories worldwide. It should be noted that the designations employed for countries and territories in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) do not imply any expression of opinion of IAU with regard to their status or the delimitations of their frontiers.

UNESCO is the only UN body with a mandate in higher education.
The Organization supports governments and institutions worldwide in building capacity and formulating policies and strategies, so that higher education fully contributes to sustainable national development.

Credit Evaluation AACRAO Electronic Database for Global Education (EDGE),
a web-based resource for the evaluation of foreign educational credentials. Ultimately every educational system in the world will be included as an EDGE profile.

AACRAO Transfer Credit Practices of Designated Educational Institutions (TCP) publication.  As a convenience to its users, TCP reports on the accreditation status of the institutions. However, TCP is NOT a directory of all accredited institutions and AACRAO is not an accrediting agency.

US Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education - The accreditation database is compiled by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education. Each of the postsecondary educational institutions and programs contained within the database is, or was, accredited by an accrediting agency or state approval agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a “reliable authority as to the quality of postsecondary education” within the meaning of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA). The database does not include a number of postsecondary educational institutions and programs that elect not to seek accreditation but nevertheless may provide a quality postsecondary education.



European Commission, the Council of Europe and NESCO/CEPES, have jointly created this web site primarily as a tool to assist the ENIC-NARIC Networks.  However, it is also its express purpose to help other interested organizations and individuals easily find information on current issues in international academic and professional mobility, and on procedures for the recognition of foreign qualifications.
The ENIC Network (European Network of Information Centres) To implement the Lisbon Recognition Convention and, in general, to develop policy and practice for the recognition of qualifications, the Council of Europe and UNESCO have established the ENIC Network (European Network of National Information Centres on academic recognition and mobility). The Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES jointly provide the Secretariat for the ENIC Network. The ENIC Network cooperates closely with the NARIC Network of the European Union.

Life After High School Web site designed to promote the hospitality industry and awareness of career opportunities – self described exploration tool and not a career planning tool.  The site is sponsored by several institutions and is targeted to high school students and counselors.

International Baccalaureate
Their three programs for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. There are more than 591,000 IB students at 2,195 schools in 125 countries.  Information for College Counselors and University Admissions Professionals, including IB recognition policies at hundreds of tertiary institutions. 



US Advising Centers and Exchange Programs

EducationUSA Advising Centers around the world.  The Department of State provides support to a network of Educational Advising/Information Centers around the world. These centers advise prospective international students and other audiences on higher education and study opportunities in the United States. To contact an advising center, please select a region.

United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI)  The vision of USEFI is to emerge as a knowledge and service-driven model for other similar bi-national entities. USEFI strives to hold a leadership position by developing a critical mass of information and database for creating and sustaining mutually beneficial strategic alliances among higher education institutions of India and the U.S.

America-Mideast Educational and Training Services, Inc. (AMIDEAST) is a private, nonprofit organization that strengthens mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa. Every year, AMIDEAST provides English language and professional skills training, educational advising, and testing services to hundreds of thousands of students and professionals in the Middle East and North Africa; supports numerous institutional development projects in the region; and administers educational exchange programs. Founded in 1951, AMIDEAST is headquartered in Washington, DC with a network of field offices in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, West Bank/Gaza, and Yemen.

Trends in Student Mobility

Institute of International Education (IIE) provides a wide range of services to and manages or administers programs for many corporations, foundations, government agencies, and international agencies. IIE encourages organizations to consider working with IIE to develop programs that meet specific objectives.  IIE compiles data on international student mobility in the US found in the annual publication “Open Doors.” 

IIE Open Doors – The definitive collection of statistics on international students at US institutions and US students in foreign programs.  The site includes many links to other information including financial aid, ESL, visa information, US advising offices, insurance, and many other resources for students, counselors, and university professionals.

American Councils administers a variety of cultural exchange, study abroad, and research programs on behalf of both public and private funding agencies.  Participation in these programs is through an open, merit-based competition, and facilitates mutual understanding between the United States and Eurasia, Southeast Europe, and South Asia.

International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) supports economic development, social reform, and civic participation within a society and provides the foundation for tomorrow's leaders.
